You only get 1 “First impression,” so make it count! If your property looks great externally and it stands out for the correct reasons, it will intrigue prospective purchasers to take that all important first step to look inside.

The front of your house is the first thing prospective purchasers will see, so keeping it presentable is a must. The path to your front door should be clear, welcoming and well maintained. Always show people in through the front door rather than through a back or side door. Make sure your house stands out by clearing your garden of weeds or dead leaves and ensure it is neat and maintained. Don’t forget to edge the garden, mow the lawn, trim shrubs and cut back bushes.

Take a little bit of extra effort and light a fire if it’s a cold evening or even a chilly day. This will make your home feel warm and inviting. If you don’t light a fire, then ensure the fireplace is clean. Give bedrooms and bathrooms the “hotel look” with freshly made beds and new towels. You might want to throw a few pillows on the beds to complete the ‘look’. Make sure the windows are properly dressed with blinds or curtains as naked windows make a place feel impersonal and run down. Plants and flowers bring colour and life to a room and also smell good, so does that fruit bowl on your kitchen counter.
Make that 1st impression count by also:
  • Picking up litter outside or even opposite the property
  • Rid the driveway of leaves and stains
  • Repair gutters, eaves etc.
  • Touch up exterior paint
  • Swimming pool must sparkle
  • Clean the patio and furniture
  • Paint or varnish the front door and make sure the house name or number is clearly visible – if not buy a new sign
  • Clean the windows
  • Repaint window trims if required
